Setting records

We had two handbell peal attempts this week, one successful and one to keep on the list of projects. We tried Grandsire Caters on Monday, but failed about two thirds of the way through when I missed a bob. Grandsire Caters has a lot of bobs! Something like 150 calls in the Albert Tyler composition that I have written about before, compared with 18 calls in the peal of Dumfries Surprise Royal that I called in the tower a couple of weeks ago. The successful peal was yesterday, with 5-spliced surprise major (CYNRB) using the Philip Davies composition that I have also written about in the past.

Here are the new records:

  • Most SACR handbell peals in a year: 12 (the previous record was 11 in 2015, 2017 and 2022).
  • Most people ringing SACR handbell peals in a year: 19 (the previous record was 17 in 2023).
  • Most SACR handbell peals rung by one person in a year: Barbara Bell with 9.
  • Most handbell peals rung at a Scottish venue in a year: 27 House o'Hill Crescent, Edinburgh, with 8.

And it's still only September!
