A little more promptly than the last couple, here is our handbell roundup for October 2014, based on reports from BellBoard.
Among the quarter peals, there are several firsts:
- First quarter on 8 handbells as conductor: Joe Norton
- First quarter in hand: Sebastian Bradley
- First quarter on 8 in hand: Alex Frye
- First quarter in hand: Monica Menis
- First quarter in hand: Saskia Frisby
- First quarter in hand: Rob Gorton
- First quarter: Amy Madden
- First quarter on 10: Daniel Page
Also a return to handbell ringing for John Horrocks.
There have been two four-in-hand quarters:
- A solo performance of Plain Bob Minimus by Richard Lewis-Skeath
- Bristol Major by Nick Brown
Among the peals there are a few firsts and personal landmarks:
- First peal on 10 handbells: Matthew Turner
- First peal of Surprise Major in hand: Barrie Hendry
- Several firsts in our peal of Kent Maximus: first on 12 for Angela Deakin, first on 12 handbells for Jonathan Frye and Jenny Holden, first on 12 handbells as conductor for Simon Gay.
- First of Surprise in hand: Mike Pidd
- 50th handbell peal as conductor: David Jenkins
- 300th handbell peal: David Kemp
Other noteworthy peals:
- Another Stedman Triples Landmark rung silent and non-conducted in Birmingham.
- A peal of Yorkshire Fourteen.
- A fancy peal of Spliced Maximus.
- Further progress towards Norman Smith's 27-Spliced Surprise Major.
- A peal in Stavanger, Norway.
- An unusual length, 7070, for Peter Blight's birthday.
Now for our featured performance. We were impressed by the quarter of Bristol Major four-in-hand, which is rather unusual. But we have chosen a peal with two firsts in hand, showing a band making good progress together.
